Design
The reverse of the coin features a moth, a nocturnal flying insect with two pairs of broad wings very similar to a butterfly. The moth is represented with a skull on her back, with the body in Ultra High Relief. All around the moth, the letters of the palindrome latin phrase “in girum imus nocte et consumimur igni” are divided in two inscriptions. The fire is still composing the sentence from the palindrome letters engraved. This sentence means “we go round and round in the night and are consumed by fire”. The legend says that if you write this sentence on a parchment and you set it on fire, you’ll have the power to evoke the philosopher stone. On the bottom of the reverse, the inscription: “2023” – the year of issue. On the obverse, the body of the moth is excavated inside the coin showing the details of the body. All around the obverse, the palindrome latin sentence is engraved as if it were branded by fire. On the obverse, the Coat of Arms of Palau and the inscriptions: “republic of palau” – the country of issue and “20 dollars” – the face value. The innovative Industrial Proof Finish makes every coin unique, it will give to every coin an exclusive burning effect!
