Description
This unique 2 Oz Silver coin is part of the “TechStalgic” series. A tribute to the devices that carried our voices and dreams. This time, it's the walkman. Introduced in 1979. Designed to let people enjoy portable, private music. Music no longer tethered. No longer confined. It became a global phenomenon in the 1980s and 1990s. It was freedom. It was solitude and rebellion. It was youth pressed into headphones. Private galaxies of desire and rage. A tool of self-expression: the mixtape inside was the mirror of who you were and what you felt. Lovers split one pair of earphones. A wire bridging two souls. The coin carries this memory in its body, draped in Silk Finish. Pierced with Proof touches. It is sealed in a case with its Certificate of Authenticity. Only 499 pieces in the world.
Design
The reverse of this Silver coin features the iconic walkman. The little tape lid yawns open. Inside, a hollow ready to cradle your favorite cassette. Along the edge, technical details emerge with sharp precision. Stop/Eject button, left/right volume sliders, mic button, and power jack in full view. On the reverse, also the inscriptions: “COYNS” (once on the tape lid, once in miniature beside the power jack) and “SOUNDCOIN”. A clever homage to both the original design and the issuing mint: Power Coin. Flip the coin and a rush of nostalgia hits you. You can see the back of the Walkman. The battery compartment sits fully exposed. A tape commands attention. The loose ribbon dangles, tempting you to twirl it with your finger through the cassette's holes. It wraps the Public Seal of Niue. The details are so rich, you can almost feel their texture under your fingertips. On the obverse, also the inscriptions: “SILVER .999” – the fineness of Silver, “NIUE ISLAND” – the issuing country, “2 DOLLARS” – the face value, and “2025” – the year of issue.
